"The newly accessible Cock-of-.the-Rock lek, lower down the Tandayapa Valley, is available for visitors exclusively from Bellavista every day . Truly the wildlife spectacle of northwestern Ecuador, this particular lek can be considered very active.

Access is easy, forget 4 a.m. departures and long hikes in the dark! We leave the lodge at 5 a.m. and drive just 15 minutes down the road. A short ride on a grass track takes us to the base of the trail.

This is a bit steep at first, then goes essentially  flat for about 15 minutes to get to the seating area to observe the birds. We arrive before the cacophony of their calls begins, and when everything suddenly gets going, it sends a thrill down your spine, even on repeat visits! 15 to 20 large spectacular red-coloured birds, flying from branch to branch displaying to the females! Why not make this part of your visit, even on a short visit of 2 days 1 night? We can offer this early morning activity, return  to the lodge for breakfast comfortably at 9.00 a.m., and still have another hike or other activity before lunch!
