Welcome to Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve & Lodge Tandayapa , Ecuador

I would just like to say thank you for a wonderful visit in May this year. The guides were fantastic, and I saw so much that I had never even imagined. The olinguito put in an appearange only two metres in front of me, taking the sugar solution from the hummingbird feeders. I saw tiny frogs, beautiful orchids and stunning birds. It is altogether a magical place.

Not a day has gone by since leaving Ecuador that I haven't found myself thinking of Bellavista and the superb time I enjoyed there. Thanks again for such an amazing holiday .

Bellavista is a dream come true, not just for us, but for every nature lover and bird-watcher whose imagination is stimulated by the idea of a Cloud Forest. Started by a Colombo - British couple, Gloria and Richard, in 1991, what was initially a 55 hectare reserve has now become a certified ecolodge with a 700 hectare private reserve, the land owned by Gloria and Richard and a handful of like-minded conservationists. For anyone who seeks to immerse him or her self in its mysteries, soak in its vast views, anyone who wants to discover its rare and endemic birds, orchids and other species, anyone who wants to discover true peace and wild places, anyone who loves forests, there are few places like it so easily accessible!!.

Resent sightings on Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge's grounds. Take a look at how wonderful our nature is:

Bromeliads and orchids, hummingbirds and tanagers, toucans and antpittas, all vie for our attention, and could keep any dedicated naturalist enthused for a lifetime of observation. Add to that the sense of adventure hiking the forest trails, or deep adventure hiking up streams to reach hidden waterfalls……and you have the ingredients for a travel experience about which famed photographer Tui De Roy has said …… I will return to Bellavista again and again, because I know that here I will always find sheer magic….. .

Less than 1 hour 45 minutes from the heart of Quito city, or 1 hour from the Mitad Del Mundo Equator monument. Bellavista is a private reserve of 700 hectares, at the top of the famed Tandayapa Valley, near Mindo, in an area that has won the highest 24 hour bird count in 2006, 2007, and 2008 in the Audubon Christmas Bird Count for the Americas.

"We would like to express our thanks for a wonderful experience in the Cloud Forest with Bellavista in December. The itinerary you and Jens organised for us ticked all our boxes; transport, meals and accommodation were very good and the whole tour was of good value. David and Favio were excellent. David’s knowledge of the birds, fauna and flora was exceptional and he went out of his way to ensure we saw and enjoyed all that the Cloud Forest had to offer (247 birds we had never seen before!) . Favio was a diligent and careful driver and we appreciated him and David offering help with luggage and our birding bits and pieces.
Once again thankyou to everyone for making our holiday so enjoyable and memorable.
We will certainly be recommending Equador to friends and acquaintances as a fabulous place to visit."

"We had a fabulous time at the reserve last week! Our guide was really great with the kids. He kept them engaged while teaching them some really great stuff about the cloud forest. They especially enjoyed learning how to get water out of witch's fingers, seeing a dragon's blood tree, and discovering how to use tree fern sap as hair gel... which my son just HAD to try out. The staff even presented my daughter with a birthday cake for her 11th birthday. She said the trip to the reserve was her best birthday present ever. Thank you for such a wonderful trip."
